Installed across two rooftops in an East/West orientation, the newly commissioned 66kWp solar PV system features 150 Jinko 440W panels, connected to a 50kW Huawei inverter. This configuration was chosen for its reliability, high efficiency, and ability to maximise daylight capture throughout the day.


A Greener Future, One Roof at a Time


The system is expected to generate around 53,000 kWh of renewable electricity annually, dramatically reducing the building’s reliance on the grid. The carbon impact of this installation is just as impressive. By offsetting over 17,600 kg of CO₂ each year, the system’s effect is equivalent to planting 801 trees or avoiding 43,610 kilometres of car travel—all from clean Irish sunlight.

Since going live, the system has been consistently delivering results. In fact, during its first week of operation, it supplied an average of 40% of the building’s total electricity needs. That’s a massive impact for any commercial building, especially one operating at scale.

Solar at Work: A Real-Time View


“At 2:30 PM on Wednesday, April 30th, we saw the system performing at its peak,” said Matthew Broderick, Project Manager at Solgrid. 

“It was producing 44.77 kW of power, with 39.9 kW being used directly by the building and 4.87 kW exported back to the grid. At that point, the Galway site wasn’t just running on 100% solar—it was actually sending surplus clean energy out to support the wider community.”

Other live monitoring snapshots throughout the day echoed this success. At 14:17, the PV array was generating 34.91 kW, powering the majority of the building’s load. By 15:29, it was supplying nearly 100% of electricity demand, with just 1.65 kW drawn from the grid—a powerful demonstration of solar for commercial buildings in real time.
