One of our recent standout commercial solar projects was a 66kWp rooftop solar PV system designed and installed for a facility in Galway. Led by our Project Manager, Matthew Broderick, this installation reflects Solgrid’s deep commitment to safety, quality, and smart design in delivering solar energy to businesses.
Technical Overview: Solar for Business in Action
This commercial solar PV system was installed across two rooftops, laid out in an East/West orientation to maximize energy yield throughout the day - an ideal approach for businesses looking to reduce grid reliance and electricity costs. We employed a solar mount rail system, with DC containment run neatly beneath the panels, ensuring a clean and secure setup all the way to the system's emergency disconnects.
Matthew Broderick, Project Manager at Solgrid, walked us through the install:
"We have two roofs comprising of a 66 kilowatt peak system, East and West, using a solar mount rail system running our DC containment under the panels over to our shunts also known as a fireman’s switch for our emergency disconnect. The DC power runs from our shunts back into our containment, running down the side of the building towards our inverter, which is located in the distribution room."
Safe, Efficient Commercial Solar Installation
To facilitate smooth delivery, we coordinated a crane lift with Walsh Crane Hire, safely hoisting all panels, rails, and Geda-lift equipment up to the rooftop work area. Since this solar PV installation in Galway took place at height, health and safety were top priorities.
Matthew explained our robust on-site safety measures:
"As we're quite high up here, we also have edge protection with our mobile man anchors so the lads are able to harness on with their ropes and harnesses and be able to work safely over at the edges of the roof. We're able to move these to any location then that we want to work on."
This mobile safety setup gave our team full flexibility to move securely between work zones while ensuring minimal disruption to the building's daily operations.
Collaboration & Sustainability
This project is a prime example of commercial solar for business done right - seamless coordination between Solgrid’s in-house design, engineering, and installation teams, all working toward one goal: delivering a system that meets the client’s energy needs while supporting their long-term sustainability goals.
From the initial planning stage to final commissioning, every step was tailored to the specific building layout and energy objectives.
We’re proud to support Tiger Property and companies like this that are actively investing in solar for business as a step toward a cleaner, more cost-effective energy future. With reliable, future-proof solar PV systems, Solgrid continues to lead the way in commercial solar solutions across Ireland.
